12.2.Add Existing

Adding an existing database is used to add a database, most likely a shared database on your server, to a new installation of RM Studio on a PC. The procedure isn’t complicated or used frequently. Once RM Studio has been installed and the database connected, you will only need to Upgrade the database with every new RM Studio upgrade.

You will need to know the name and location(s) of the database(s) you want to connect to the new RM Studio installation. If the database you need is on a server, then you also must have the SQL fixed-database role, db_owner. In your organization you may not have the access, so contact the person responsible for the databases and servers.

Click the ‘Add existing’ button to open the wizard.

Database Settings - Add Existing Database to RM Studio

  1. Identify the Server that the database is stored on.
  2. Enter a Name for the database you will use in RM Studio.
  3. Enter the Name of the database on server.
  4. Choose to use the Windows Authentication or enter your RM Studio username and password.

We highly recommend using the Windows Authentication whenever possible, as it is much more secure and easily traced throughout RM Studio.
