3.1.2.1.Import Assets

How to: Import Asset Registry into RM Studio

Importing external data into RM Studio can be a huge time saving task, especially for Assets. By importing your organization’s existing asset list/registry, you will ensure accuracy and completeness of evaluating all assets in the Risk Assessment(s).

  1. Open the RM Studio Menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Select ‘Import External Data’ with a left click to open the import tool.
  3. The data must be in an Excel spreadsheet with the set Data pattern:
    NAME; OWNERS NAME; DESCRIPTION
Choose the Data Entity: Asset from the drop down list and left click.
  4. Click the ellipsis button to open the popup for locating the Data source, select the Excel file containing the assets and then click the Open button.
  5. Click the Preview button to review the data prior to import. Above the Preview is a ‘Skip Header’ checkbox that is used to skip the header on the columns in your Asset Registry Excel worksheet.
  6. After reviewing the data for import, click the Import button to execute the task.
  7. The system informs you of the Import success and the ‘XX’ number of rows imported; click ‘OK’ to complete the import. Close the Import popup with the ‘X’.
  8. The imported assets are now under the Global Assets in the Common section. Double click Assets to open the Asset Browser. Here you can review the imported assets and assign the Categories for the Risk Assessment.*Remember that Assets must be assigned Categories that have Threats assigned in order for the Risk Assessment to make the connection of Asset<-> Threat => Risk relationship.

If you have the Global Assets Browser open when you are importing new assets, then you have to click the ‘Refresh’ icon to update the Asset List – All Assets.
